Macon-Bibb County is considering whether to spend $300,000 on garbage and recycling bins.
With hundreds of requests for the new bins, 13WMAZ’s Paula Rotondo found out a little more about the current recycling options for Macon-Bibb.
Taking out your recycling is something Ashlee Hammonds does every other Thursday.
“I would say about 70% of our waste is recycling,” she says.
Hammonds is part of a single stream pickup program that’s only offered in certain areas inside the former Macon city limits. That means she can recycle things like bottles, cans, and paper products.
However, the program is limited.
Currently, only 2,000 homes are a part of the single stream pilot program, but if commissioners pass funding next week a thousand more homes could receive new recycling bins.
